Saving Wildwood Excerpt
βHey, kiddo, youβve got mail,β Mat said as he tossed a small envelope across the table toward Clari.
βI swear to whatever might be holy, if anyone but you ever calls me that, I will punch them in the face,β Clari said, rolling her eyes as she grabbed the envelope before it slid off the edge.
For his part, Mat just winked at her with a little smirk. Somewhere along the line, they had fallen perfectly into a sibling relationship, giving each other a never-ending stream of grief, but heaven help anyone who tried to mess with either of them because the full fury of hell would rain down on that person for it.
Mat looked back to the rest of the mail, sorting things into piles for each person, but when Clari made a strange sound, his attention shifted instantly.
βWhatβs the matter?β he asked, all joking aside when he saw her wide eyes and pale face.
βIβm not sureβ¦β she said, trailing off then flipping the notecard over to see if there was anything written on the back. βI think itβs a thank-you card, but thereβs something really weird about it too. Here, tell me what you think.β
He caught the card in mid-air when she tossed it to him and looked the whole thing over, both sides, three times, before saying anything. It certainly looked innocent enough, but he had to agree with her that there was something off about the whole thing.
