Elanor Tisdaleβs mother recently remarried, and it turned their familyβs world on its head.
Starting out life as a happy, middle-class, run-of-the-mill family, tragedy struck, changing their lives forever. Forced to grow up too quickly, Elanor found herself a caregiver to her two younger siblings, more interested in their happiness than her own. After the wedding, the Tisdale family moves into Arthurβs cold and lifeless manor house, the size of which is beyond their wildest dreams.
As often is the case, this new lifestyle comes with new rules; and they are not easy for the three Tisdale siblings to swallow. Elanorβs new stepfather hires a tutor to help the siblings adjust to their new lives, teaching them about the expectations placed upon them. Darkly handsome and mysteriously quiet Jasper Cole enters the household unaware of the forces at play within the family.
Can the Tisdales change a household clinging to old beliefs? Will Elanor be able to move beyond the pains of her past and learn to open her heart to love? Or will traditions and outdated expectations tear them all apart?

“As it is, I know nothing about this kind of life, and Iβm going to need your help to survive it until I either move out or get my bearings.β
βOh, Miss, you wonβt need my help, though Iβd be happy to offer it if you find you do. Mr. Arthur has hired a tutor. I donβt know who it is, but I know Miles and Sophia have been working on getting a room ready further down the wing all morning. The tutor is supposed to arrive later today.β
βA tutor!?β Elanor exclaimed. βWhat for? Who for?β
βWell, for all three of you Iβm sure, but I think mostly for you since youβre the oldest,β Carlie replied with a small laugh. βI think Mr. Arthur intends to have you taught in proper behavior and etiquette before the introduction ball in six weeks. I donβt know anything for sure, but I think he intends to introduce more than just your mother to society.β
βIβm a full-grown woman! I donβt need a tutor! β¦ Do I?β she asked.
βTo be honest, Miss, I only know that world from the sidelines. However, I wouldnβt be upset with Mr. Arthur. If what you say about our backgrounds is true, a tutor in the ways of these people might be very helpful. Do you know how to eat a meal that has multiple forks and spoons that need to be used in a certain order? Do you know how to greet people of station, or dance the waltz? Do you know how to walk down the grand staircase in a ball gown and heels, or eat hors d’oeuvres while speaking with guests?β
The color drained from Elanorβs face. Not only did she not know how to do any of those things, she knew her sister, and especially her brother, would struggle mightily with these tasks.
βOh my. How many tutors are they bringing? Iβm not sure one will be enough for the three of us.β
